Nodules are abnormal tissue growths that can be found anywhere in the body. Although they are often benign, some nodules are symptoms of an underlying health condition. Nodules can also develop in internal tissues. Inflammation often occurs due to an infection or an auto-immune reaction, which occurs when your body over reacts to its own tissues. For example, a granuloma is a small clump of cells that forms when tissue is inflamed. Nodular refers to the mass of cells (a nodule) which causes a lump to form under your skin. The mass is a type of tumor, but it’s not cancer. Fasciitis refers to inflammation in the fascia. This fibrous connective tissue is part of your musculoskeletal system.
